"I refuse to be judged by the values of another culture.

Here, your story, culture, identity, as well as your uniqueness, are centered.

-Bernice Reagon

As a womanist, teacher, healer, somatic practitioner, spiritual writer, and sacred artist, I am passionate about helping individuals initiate healing and reignite wholeness, by accessing their own inner wisdom. I guide individuals through an exploration of the resilience of the human body and spirit, through full presence in heart, body, and mind.

With my background as a licensed graduate professional counselor (LGPC), a certified somatic therapy foundations practitioner (CSTFP), certified trauma professional (CTP), and a certified spiritual director, I use a framework that recognizes the impact of systemic racism, gender and economic oppression, and other socio-political/cultural factors, on individuals and families. My background and training includes liberation psychology, race-based trauma, somatic healing, integrated body-based techniques, Compassion-based spiritual direction, and Group Spiritual Direction.

Hey y'all!

“Journey to the center with me now;
together, we won't get lost in despair.
Your wails are worthy to be heard.”

founding

I founded The milk&honey House out of a void and longing for spaces that focus on both spirituality and wellbeing for BIPOC folk(x). With a background in psychotherapy and spirituality, I sensed the calling down a path that would lead to something far beyond myself.

The House started out as an online blog eight years ago, and as an online compilation of "wilderness and desert" experiences, for individuals who perpetually experienced life as wandering through a wilderness. Blogging became a time of inner discovery, and a year later, I transitioned out of the classroom and into the world of psychotherapy. All the while, the seeds of contemplative spirituality that were planted during my undergraduate days of service in Howard’s chapel, were beginning to break through from underground.

The Birth
Freedom Found

Two years later, I was chosen to participate in a fellowship for contemplative leaders. While in the program, as a school leader during the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself constantly grappling with the dual realities of overwhelming fatigue and a deep desire for transformational change and justice.

The fast-paced professional environment and its narrow valuation of intelligence and success, along with perfectionism and overworking as an unstated norm, was causing me to exist inauthentically. I aspired to embody the ideal leader. In this space, I began to compartmentalize all of the other facets of my life-- including my spiritual life, my blackness, and my liberatory values. I was misaligned. And though I knew it, I kept running on the hamster wheel, suppressing a desire to harmonize the many facets of my existence. And then one day, I just couldn't do it anymore.

I quit.

And from that place,

I experienced an inner resurrection.

I worked hard to purge the toxic beliefs of Dominant (Grind) Culture. I wrestled with the challenge of exchanging the hustle and bustle of a superficial existence, for a more aligned way of living--a life rooted in authenticity and liberation. This carried me into a space where I could possess the freedom to work at the intersection of the psychological, spiritual, political, ancestral, and the collective.
